The
Taj Mahal |
|
The Taj Mahal built by the Moghul
Emperor Shahjehan between 1631 and
1654 by a workforce of more than twenty
thousand construction as a mausoleum
for his favorite wife, Arjumand Bano
Begum, who is better known as Mumtaz
Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains.
The Taj Mahal is part of modern seven
wonders of the world . The Taj incorporates
and expands on many design traditions,
particularly Persian, Hindu and earlier
Mughal architecture. is generally
considered the finest example of Mughal
architecture, a style that combines
elements of Indian and Persian architectures.
The Taj has achieved special note
because of the romance of its inspiration.
While the white domed marble mausoleum
is the most familiar part of the monument,
the Taj is actually a complex of elements.
The overall design derived inspiration
from a number of successful Timurid
and Mughal buildings: these include
the Gur-e Amir, Humayun's Tomb, Itmad-Ud-Daulah's
Tomb (often called the Baby Taj),
and his own Jama Masjid. Under Shah
Jahan's patronage, Mughal building
reached new levels of refinement:,
previous Mughal building had primarily
been constructed of red sandstone;
Shah Jahan promoted the use of white
marble inlaid with semi-precious stones.
The Taj Mahal always considered the
symbol of Love. |

| South
India (Kerala, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh) |
| South
India is a place where the Indian heritage
is more intact here than in other regions
of the country as almost untouched by
invasions throughout its history. The
states of Andhrapradesh, Tamilandu,
Karnataka and Kerals are considered
South India. Each state has its own
culture, language and food habits. Kerala's
culture called to be a very different
than that of any other state in India. |

| Tirumala
Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD),
2nd richest temple in the world is a
worth visit which is in Tirupati, Chittoor
Dist, Andhra Pradesh. People enjoy
the peace amidst the lively and magnificent
temples. There are more than 30,000
temples I n Tamil Nadu alone, which
has given the state the distinctive
title of 'A Land of Temples'. The history
of the Tamils presents an exciting pageant
of a powerful civilization whose origin
dates back to ancient times. It is clear
that the Tamils, who belong to the Dravidian
race, were the first major occupants
of the country and settled in the north-western
part of India long before the coming
of the Indo-Aryans. Excavations have
revealed that the features of the people
of the Indus Valley Civilization bore
a strong resemblance to this race. Places

| Palace
On Wheels |
| The
concept of the palace on wheels was
derived from the royal background of
the coaches which were originally meant
to be the personal railway coaches of
erstwhile rulers of the princely states
of Rajputana and Gujarat, the Nizam
of Hyderabad and the viceroy of British
India. Though times have changed and
the winds have shifted, the Palace On
Wheels cruises along in royal style,
the kind only the Maharajas of yesteryears
could have perpetuated and enjoyed. |
| |
| The
Palace on Wheels maintains an imperial
style and décor. The train and its facilities
are synonymous with the epitome of luxury.
The service is impeccable and you are
sure to receive the treatment worthy
of kings and queens. An attendant or
'Khidmatgar' is always available at
your service, to take care of all your
travel needs. Special assistance is
available in the form of wheel chairs,
creches and a special attendant for
manual assistance. The train is fully
air-conditioned. There are fourteen
deluxe saloons named after the princely
states of Rajasthan. Each saloon has
4 cabins attached with bath and shower.built-in
wardrobes, overhead and night lights,
piped music, reading lights etc. Personal
attendants make sure that you are well
looked after. There are 2 dining cars,
decorated in the colorful Rajasthani
style and serving Indian, Rajasthani,
Continental and Chinese food. Kids are
kept busy with interesting indoor games.
Other services include laundry services,
doctor-on-call at each station, barber
shop and beauty parlour. The lounge
has a charming shop, "The Bazaar", where
you can pick up souvenirs and gifts.
At every halt your evening is planned
with cultural programs like Ghoomar,
Panihari, Gorbandh, Ghair, Kaalebelia,
Chung, Agnl Nritya or puppet shows.
